| MONSTER CYCLE RIDE RAISES HOSPICE CASH |
 |
| A village cycling fanatic who pedalled a monster 82 miles in one day to raise cash for a Shropshire charity has praised muscle experts for
tending to his aches and pains at the side of the road. |
| Roy Bazeley, of Hodnet, took on the British Heart Foundation challenge to ride from Worksop, Yorkshire, to Sutton on Sea on August 30th in
memory of his late wife Cathy. |
| Two physiotherapists, who also took on the challenge, helped Roy pedal to success by stopping every 20 miles and tending to his aches and
pains. |
Now Roy hopes to collect £500 from family and friends for Shropshire and Mid Wales Hospice. |
| Roy was up against it from the off, having woken up on the morning of the race with a very stiff neck. Roy said: "Fortunately the two
friends accompanying me on the ride were both physiotherapists so I had the benefit of free treatment by the side of the road every 20 miles or so!" |
| "I set off with 33 riders and 25 riders completed the course. The back-up was excellent, with homemade flapjacks also every 20 miles along the way and an
enthusiastic reception at the end, including beer, chips and sandwiches." |
| The ride was a new challenge for Roy who took time out from one of his favourite activities, cycling, while he was caring for his wife. |
| Roy said the event had renewed his passion for cycling and he had already signed up for a 50 mile bike ride in the Autumn and a possible
100 mile bike ride next year. |
| Roy added: "About £200 funds a bed for a day and that would be a worthwhile achievement I think." |
| "Even Just one day's respite for a carer can enable them to re-charge their batteries and re-kindle their commitment to those
they love." |
| "Then when care at home isn't possible any more it is such a comfort to know that the hospice always works to sustain quality of life
and relief from pain." |
 |
| 'Awesome' |
| "What a truly awesome organisation, and I know from personal experience, such truly awesome people, brimming over with humanity
and compassion." |
| "Dear Cathy was cradled and enfolded in love at the end. What a gift. It still brings tears to my eyes just thinking about what
those guys do for people." |
